ABOUT US

Our Country Estate
An award-winning Top 100 Golf Resort

Set in 300 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside, The Grove offers more than your average five-star hotel.

Just 18 miles from central London, our private resort features three unique restaurants, an award-winning spa, championship golf course and a wide selection of luxury meeting and event spaces.

The Grove has hosted two major tournaments in its 20-year history, the American Express World Golf Championship in 2006, won by Tiger Woods, and the DP World Tour's 2016 British Masters in association with Sky Sports, won by Sweden's Alex Noren.

Tiger Woods plays into the final green at The Grove in 2006.

The Grove was originally the rural seat for the Earls of Clarendon who were residents until the 1920s and entertained famous guests including Queen Victoria and Edward VII.

After the Clarendons’ departure, The Grove underwent several transformations from girls’ boarding school to the railway’s wartime headquarters before becoming this fun, family-friendly country escape set in the Hertfordshire countryside with its very own private beach, outdoor pool and woodland trails.

Today, the 18th-century Mansion houses 26 rooms, suites and lounges while the thoroughly modern West Wing holds a further 189 deluxe, superior and family rooms, many of which have terraces looking over the immaculate Formal Gardens.

Internship Programme
in collaboration with the PGA of America

Interns can join our award-winning golf operations team on a six-month basis. Throughout their time they will be given the opportunity to implement what they have learned academically at college through the 'Professional Golf Management' Degree programme and apply it to real-life situations.

The internship covers all areas of our golf department, from outside services to retail management, tournament operations, administration and golf instruction, as well as some classroom-based training courses in customer services and other skills.

Interns cover these areas over rotation, month by month, week by week or day by day, depending on what will be most beneficial to them in accordance with business needs.

Following a three-month departmental induction, interns will be able to develop supervisory skills by helping to manage junior staff/part-time staff with staff training and communications as 'shift leaders.

Interns not only learn what 5-star customer service means at a European golf resort and how to deliver it, but by the end of the programme they should have a detailed insight into the complete workings of the golf operation at The Grove.

CREATING LEADERS IN GOLF
It all started at The Grove

Michael Shrieve
Director of Golf,
Bearwood Lakes, UK

"The Grove gave me the best education in how to treat customers and guests. I was constantly learning and being developed to the point where I felt confident I was ready to take a jump into a senior leadership role.

"My development took place in many forms, both formal and informal, whether it was the MDP programme, training sessions, a weekly one-to-one with a line manager or simply a 5-minute walk to lunch with the Director of Golf.

"Highlights? Being a part of the Golf Operations Team for the 2016 British Masters was an experience I’ll never forget. The team spirit was something you can’t explain.

"It’s cliché to say The Grove is like a family, but to me it was. I’ve got both mentors and friends for life and I don’t know what more you could ask for from employers.

"There’s a relentless inspirational culture which asks: 'How can we continue to be the best?' This is backed with investment in cutting-edge technology and equipment, best-in-class training and continual refinement of standards and procedures."

Andy McMahon
Director of Golf, Operations & Padel Club, Adare Manor, Ireland

"From joining The Grove as an Assistant Professional, I always felt that the leadership team push you to be better.  From a very thorough training program, specific to not only the role but the team member themselves, it armed you with the skills to move forward quickly in your career.

Adare Manor

Adare Manor

"I had some amazing experiences at The Grove, and the American Express World Golf Championship in 2006 was incredible.  An opportunity to showcase the facility at such an early stage and the feedback from all the players was fantastic.  To look around now and see the ball display in the Golf Shop and the quotes from the players on the walls brings all the memories back, along with every time you see how far Tiger Woods hit his drive on the 9th hole!

"You always feel everyone is looking out for you as part of the family at The Grove.  The support given to team members who may be suffering some personal challenges was never overlooked, from fellow team members and departmental heads, General Managers all the way to the ownership.  The culture never changed - people always came first."

Will Evans
Director of Agronomy
The Royal Golf Club, Bahrain

"During my time at The Grove, I developed and gained experiences in operating a busy golf course with a focus on presenting world-class playing conditions year-round with exceptional attention to detail practices.

"Additionally, I was exposed to a variety of different experiences outside of the normal function of green-keeping, such as maintenance practices for sport fields, gardens and woodlands. These experiences enabled me to progress and diversify my career within the industry and opened up opportunities to grow into other areas of agronomy management.

The Royal Golf Club Bahrain

The Royal Golf Club Bahrain

"The experiences gained at The Grove have stayed with me throughout my career and set me apart from others within the industry.

"In my role as Head Greenkeeper there were many stand out moments relating to team development, event set-up and course recognition.

"Teamwork, dedication and moral was outstanding with a consistent goal to ensure guests enjoyed an outstanding experience."

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."

"Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success."

"The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team."
