Driving Innovation

Over 60 years of creating cutting-edge technology and standout design continues to see Club Car lead the market

Since our very first golf cart rolled off the production line six decades ago, Club Car’s range of small-wheeled electric vehicles have become synonymous with golf and wider personal and commercial transportation.

Whether it’s for work or leisure, for use on or off-the-course, our extensive portfolio provides a durable and sustainable set of vehicles that can suit any need.

The variety of vehicle choice sees Club Car supply golf courses and resorts, government complexes and educational institutions - even the UNESCO World Heritage site at Petra, in Jordan, is home to a fleet of our vehicles to ferry visitors around the landmark.

That versatility and durability is bettered only by Club Car’s durability in the market, having remained at the forefront of the industry since the early 1960s, thanks largely to consistent research and development, and technological innovation to stay ahead of the curve.

In this interactive feature, we will:

  • Visualise the development of Club Car vehicles
  • Hear from Consumer Portfolio Leader, Daniel Dykstra
  • Take a look at what’s driving the modern Club Car vehicle today

Officially developed and released in 1962, the original Club Car was the first golf car produced with a steering wheel. It's unrecognisable to the modern car used on golf courses today...

More compact, yet with more space and a host of customisable options - the modern Tempo is a sign of significant development and assessment of the needs of the modern golfer...

The latest in our range, the Onward is a step even further. We'll cast our eye over this vehicle - a revolution in personal transportation - later in this feature...

Investment in research and development

Our approach to innovation is backed by a strict research and development process.

This begins with consumer observations to identify how a vehicle could be improved, before ideas are conceptualised and tested.

Daniel Dykstra, Consumer Portfolio Leader at Club Car, said: “We’ll test that particular new idea with the end user of the vehicle, get some feedback and make sure that our idea - that commercial hypothesis - is valid.”

The testing phase doesn’t begin once a vehicle is complete; it runs continually through the development of our vehicles.

Thanks to sophisticated CAD systems, our team can simulate how product designs function before they’re built.

Dykstra said: “Most people think of testing as driving a vehicle around a track, putting it over bumps and going up hills, or making sure the vehicle stops on a downhill slope.

"But at Club Car, we think of it more comprehensively.

“Testing actually starts in the modelling and simulation environment with a specific team that focuses on analysis of the design before we even build the very first part.

“This team is crucial to speeding up the process and getting more robust designs to the market earlier.”

Lithium-Ion Battery Technology

Developments to the design of the range are a visual reminder of the journey Club Car has undertaken, but under the outer shell of the cars unearths more technological enhancements.

Available in new Tempo vehicles, Club Car's automotive-grade battery saves money and staff time, increases car reliability, and conserves energy to improve the overall performance of a business.

With three speed profiles, the Lithium-Ion battery easily powers cars uphill and over any terrain, so golfers can focus on their game without worrying about getting from place to place.

Lightweight and self-contained, the Lithium-Ion battery requires no 'watering', has no memory to manage, and provides up-to-date diagnostics for easier fleet and course maintenance.

The Lithium-Ion battery boosts profits by lowering maintenance costs, limiting car downtime, reducing turf compaction, and increasing energy efficiency.

Key Benefits

  • Dependable Confidence - Seamless, zero maintenance energy solution.
  • Zero Maintenance - Automatic software updates when car is connected to keep a fleet running in peak condition.
  • High Quality - Automotive grade safety and quality. Briggs & Stratton manufacturing giving the highest quality standards for a worry-free ownership experience.
  • Enhanced ROI - Cars will charge two times faster than vehicles with standard batteries, giving energy savings that will reduce operational costs.

Club Car Connect

The benefits of real time fleet management

Enhance Experience and Maximise ROI

At the heart of the revolutionary Club Car Connect system is its capacity to make your business more efficient, while also giving you the potential to increase your revenue.

With real-time reporting you can know instantly when a golf car is in trouble, whether it has a service issue or has been driven into a restricted area.

Cars operating under this system can also have their speed managed, can be easily regulated to cart-path only when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and be the perfect barometer to measure pace-of-play.

And in the case of an emergency, you have direct contact with each car, instantly allowing you to convey important customer messages, whether that’s an incoming weather warning, or an important course update.

Live Tournament feeds

Club Car Connect allows competitive golfers the opportunity to enjoy the challenge of tournament golf like never before, giving leaderboard updates as they compete.

Food and Beverage sales

By giving golfers the opportunity to place food and drinks orders from the comfort of their golf cars, Club Car Connect gives businesses an immediate revenue growth opportunity without the need to hire additional staff.

"The implementation of the GPS systems on our fleet has allowed us to restrict the areas where golf cars can go. This has meant they are completely safe, therefore allowing visitors to drive themselves with peace of mind."
Paul McGlynn, St Andrews Links

Our Connectivity Milestones

- Over 115,000 active screens
- Over 2,700 courses
- Connected in 59 Countries

“Club Car Connect is such a vital tool - not only can we communicate with people on the course and they can with us, we can also remotely check the car’s battery charge, where it is on the course, etc. With our guests coming from all over the world, the technology is very intuitive. It’s the push of a button to change from yards to metres, to contact the pro shop, the halfway house. It’s fantastic.”
Jeff Clause, who operated his first Club Car fleet in Texas in the 1980s and is now the CEO at St Francis Links, St Francis Bay, South Africa
