UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
UNESCO Biosphere Reserves are a global network of designated spaces where conservation and sustainable development come together.
In Mauritius, where 25% of plants and animals are indigenous to the island but are under threat from alien species, active conservation projects aim to give nature a helping hand, while enabling people to share these spaces in a sustainable way.
This is the purpose of the 8,500 hectare UNESCO Biosphere Reserve that covers the Black River Gorges National Park and Bel Ombre estate.
Heritage Resorts and Heritage Golf Club are committed to the work and objectives of the Biosphere, encouraging indigenous flora, including the native grasses grown for the new La Réserve Golf Links.
